THE HAGUE – The odd passer-by was struck with amazement on Sunday night as U2-singer Bono was walking through the Anna Paulownastraat in The Hague. And yet the arrival of the worldstar almost went unnnoticed. Only Bono wanted to take a picture of a man on his new Gazelle recumbent bike, otherwise the fans would certainly have missed him. It took a little before Bono dissapeared inside. "We see you at the concert", a couple of fans yelled. Obviously they got hold on tickets for the upcoming concerts. "We're going to sing with you", they told the singer. He waved, greeted the security at the door and went in with U2 bass player Adam Clayton.

The famous band members came to The Hague for the party of the even famous photographer Anton Corbijn. He was celebrating his 50th birthday in his newy-bought home in de city, which he is goin to use as a loft in Holland. About eighty guest went through the decorated door yesterday night, as a a string-quartet was softly playing classical music.

An assistant in a tank top was stoically holding a up “welcome” sign in the rain. The party started with a five-course diner by chef Pierre Wind. The guest had to be present at eight, but the door was still open after that. The waiting was for the most important guests, who ended their American tour in Boston on Saturday night. Their own plane brought the stars to Europe, where the tour will start on june 10th. Anton Corbijn en and the memebrs of U2 know eachother through and through. The Dutch is like the 'resident-photrapher’ of the band and recently Corbijn published a photobook (U2&i) about his connection to the group.

At 20.45 is two big cars with Hamburg (Germany) license plates turned into the Anna Paulownastraat. They stopped before the door of Corbijns’ home and the worldstars came out. Bono was dressed in e brown jacket and a loose purple shirt. Een feestganger welcomed the band members on a recumbent bike, which made Bono grab his own camera to take a picture. "How typically Dutch", he said smiling.

Later that night on the party, attended by Robert Jan Stips (ex-Supersister), writer Bart Chabot, the singer of Travis and the drummer of Metallica, Bono sang Radar Love of Dutch band The Golden Earring.
